Using Dubsado for E-Commerce as a Stationery Designer
If you’ve been around here any length of time, you know that I am a huge fan of Dubsado. It allows me to run my business 5x faster while keeping everything streamlined and super simple for both me and my clients. One of my favorite features about Dubsado is its ability to use public proposals for e-commerce. This is a perfect tool if you are looking to sell a pre-designed wedding collection or any type of product on your website. Before I started using Dubsado’s public proposals, I was using Woo Commerce along with my WordPress website. It was SO complicated and a nightmare to learn and update and just wasn’t worth it.
Once I switched over my website to Showit, I knew I still wanted to incorporate some sort of e-commerce so I did some digging and discovered Dubsado’s public proposals. In a nutshell, Dubsado allows you to put together individual and tailored proposals for your clients based on their needs and your packages. However, using their public proposal feature, you can build a “generic” proposal with your wedding collection packages, prices, and different add-on options and then any client can use that to “purchase” what they want off of it.
Private Proposals vs. Public Proposals
The main difference between private and public proposals is that for a public proposal, you can have it set up so that each time it is used/submitted, it creates a new client/project for you. So basically a public proposal you can use BEFORE a client/project is created and a private proposal has to be created AFTER a client/project is created.
Customize Your Proposal Templates
To build a public proposal, you will need to create a new Proposal Template under your forms section and in the settings of that template, you will want to make sure that the privacy settings are set to PUBLIC and that you have YES selected for “create a new project when this proposal is completed”. This is what will enter someone as a new project into your Dusbado system when they fill it out on your website. I also make sure that “show invoice” is turned on and if you want them to sign a contract for your items, you can turn on “show contract” as well.
You’ll be able to add images of your products, text descriptions, and pricing information through the packages that you set up ahead of time. Additionally, if you want to include additional features such as discounts or coupon codes for customers, then this can also be set up through Dubsado’s packages -> Discounts tab.
The benefit of setting up these public proposals is to allow clients to shop directly from your website and make all of their selections and hit submit and pay without having to email you a million times. You can have anything you want in there. I personally include the designs for them to select from, a drop-down to select their ink color and envelope color, and I also include “add on items” for them to add to their suite such as wax seals, envelopes liners, or ribbon.

And as an added bonus, you can kick off some amazing other features that Dusbado offers once a Public Proposal is submitted. If you’re on their Premier plan, you can utilize their workflows which is a no-brainer because it allows Dusbado to do some of that automation for you as opposed to having to do it manually for each client. I have a “wedding collection workflow” kick-off when someone submits an order that automatically emails them a thank you for your order email along with a link to their invoice as well as a wording questionnaire for them to fill out so I can get started on their proofs. Just a few easy steps that can add up quickly for each client! Interested in why workflows are so important in your business? Check out this blog post here!
