How Investing in My Stationery Business has Paid Off
I wanted to talk about my stationery business a little and how investing in my own business has paid off and what some of my favorite investments have been.
I try to make one major investment in my business each year. I think of it as self-care for my business. It could be something educational like an online course or a conference, or it could be hiring or outsourcing something I’ve been dreading or putting off or need help with, or it could be new equipment. Basically something that is going to help grow my business and better it.
By major investment, I usually mean around $2,000. Some years are more and some years are less, but it really balances out. I know it seems like a lot, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s not. My investments usually pay off pretty quickly because I have made sure they were good, solid investments. You can read my blogpost about 3 questions you need to ask your self when deciding on an investment!
So some of my best investments and how I’ve seen a return on them:
I’m a sucker for conferences and in-person events so my top 3 are conferences!
Stationery Academy (RIP): This was my very first experience meeting other stationers and know that this community existed. This single-handedly changed my business and taught me how to be a better business owner and stationer and how to take control of my business. And this is what ultimately led me to found The Cultivated Creative!
Business Intensive Mastermind: I will have to say this one was an impulse buy for me. Total FOMO as this was a mastermind with two amazing leaders that I adore and seats were limited and the timing was perfect. This was my first experience with a mastermind style retreat and oh my, it was oh so good. It was geared towards a tactical result that they helped you work through, and for me, it was launching The Cultivated Creative. Hands down worth every penny.
Creative at Heart: For me to go a conference back to back, you know it was good. Creative at Heart is geared towards creatives as a whole which sounds overwhelming, but it’s so amazing to connect with other entrepreneurs who can offer a different perspective on things. The connections I have made both times are paying off 10 fold
Other investments that I have made in my business over the years:
Hiring a web designer. I “created” my first two websites, and never loved them. The third go-round, I shelled out some moola and paid someone to do it for me to get my brand to the level I wanted. This investment shifted my clientele to the ideal client I had been striving for.
Hiring a financial coach. Nobody wants to talk about the boring number, much less pay someone to talk about it. But I did, and it was so eye-opening. I hired Brooke Olson Consulting to help me get my mind wrapped around my numbers so I could be in control of them instead of the other way around.
And there you have it! Some of my most favorite investments that I have made for my business and I don’t regret a single one or the money spent. I truly believe that my business is where it is today because of these investments!
